It takes around five minutes to blow the reeds in and you can blow them all day and they do not change. I play with this system installed in my pipes.
The system uses small balls of moisture absorbing gels in a canister with four compartments that attach to the stocks on the inside of the bag.
There are four tubes coming from the stocks to the compartments in the canister. The amount of gels needed in each compartment is a matter of choice. I tend to fill the compartments leading to the drones but only about 1/3 full to the chanter because I like a bit of moisture going to the chanter reed.
Now, when dry, the gels are orange in colour. As they gather moisture, the colour changes to green. When the canister is green all the way through, It is time to dry out the gels. This is done by pouring the gels into a bowl and placing them in a medium hot oven for about 1 hour. They can also be put in the microwave but I do not recommend this as it tends to split the gels. They get very hot so do not put your fingers in the bowl. let them cool down slowly. Do not put them back in the canister when still hot.
You will be very impressed with this system.
The Synthetic Bag
You may never need another bag.
The bag is attached to the stock with screw clips. In the UK we call them “Jubilee Clips”. The clips are then taped over with black electrical tape
No more seasoning bags!!
You can leave your pipes for weeks and pick them up and play them. have you ever done that before?
I play one of these bags. I find them very comfortable.
These are synthetic drone reeds. I have played this set for over 1 year now and they still look like new. They have a lovely mellow tone and stay steady for the duration of a practice session which can be between one and two hours.
